Setting up the Linksys Mesh node using temporary WiFi with the Linksys app

If you are having issues setting up the Linksys Mesh node using Bluetooth® or you’d rather not use Bluetooth setup, you can also use the temporary WiFi setup using your mobile device. This is applicable to the following devices:

    • Linksys Cognitiveâ„¢ Mesh series: Linksys MBE7000, MX6200, MR20WH and MR55WH
    • Linksys Intelligent Meshâ„¢ series: Linksys MX2000, MX5500, MX8500, MX4200, MX5300, WHW03, MR5500, MR2000, MR7500, MR9600, MR7350, MR6350, MR9000, and MR8300

    Before you begin:

    • Download or update to the latest version of the Linksys app.
    • Write down the default WiFi credentials located on the product label.
    • Parent node - The parent node is a Linksys Mesh node or router that will be connected to your modem or internet source.
    • If you have a mix of Linksys MBE7000, MX6200, and other Linksys Intelligent Meshâ„¢ nodes, make sure that the Linksys MBE7000 is the parent node in your network for better wireless performance.
    • Child node - The child node is an additional Linksys Mesh node or router that you can add to extend your WiFi network.
    • Get to know the light behavior of your (MX6200 and MBE7000; and MR20WH and MR55WH) or Linksys Intelligent Mesh node.

A Linksys MBE7000 and iOS device is used in this article. Some steps may vary slightly on an Android™.

    1. First, gather all your equipment near your modem.

If you have more than one Linksys Mesh router/node to set up, make sure to gather all your equipment in the same room as the modem. You will be able to relocate your child nodes after the setup is complete.

    2. Remove the existing WiFi router.

    a. I have a modem (non-WiFi) and a separate WiFi router or existing WiFi Mesh system:

    • Remove your existing WiFi router and/or all your devices from your old system.
    • Power cycle your modem.
    • Wait until your modem has rebooted and go to the next step.

    b. I have a WiFi router and modem in one device, or I do not have any WiFi routers:

    • Go to the next step.

    3. Power ON all your nodes. The light will be either solid blue or solid purple, depending on the model, indicating that the nodes are ready for setup. If any of the nodes display a different color, hold down the reset button for about 15 seconds, then wait for the light to turn solid.

    4. Connect one of your Linksys Mesh nodes to your modem using an ethernet cable. If you have multiple nodes, select one and connect your modem to its internet port.

If you have a Linksys WHW03 series node, you can use either of its two ports. Once set up, the port you choose will become your dedicated internet port.

For the child nodes, make sure that no other cables are connected to any of the ports on the nodes during the setup process besides the power adapter.
