Setting up the Linksys X6200

The Linksys X6200 can be set up for either a Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) or a Cable type of internet connection. It comes with an embedded setup wizard that provides a faster and simpler setup of your modem router. The setup wizard is only compatible with DSL internet service. If you have a Cable type internet connection, you would need to set up the modem router through its web interface.
 

Before you begin:
 
The following requirements should be met to avoid any problems during the setup:

Browser requirements for router setup:
 
  • Microsoft Edge®
  • Safari® 9 or higher
  • The latest version of Chrome and  Firefox®
 
You should have the following materials for setup:
 
  • A computer with Windows® XP SP3 or higher and OS X® Leopard v.10.5.8 or higher
  • Two ethernet cables
  • An active internet connection
  • Connect the power adapter to the Linksys X6200 and plug it into a power source
 
The Linksys X6200 can be set up for:

DSL
Cable
 
DSL
 
1. Connect the phone cable to the DSL port of the Linksys X6200.
 
Make sure the modem router is powered ON.
 
2. Connect an ethernet cable from your computer to the yellow ethernet port at the back of the Linksys X6200.
 
3. Launch a web browser and enter the IP address of the Linksys X6200 in the Address bar then press [Enter]. The default IP address of the Linksys X6200 is 192.168.1.1.  Enter "admin" for both username and password.
 
4. Go to the Quick Start tab and click on the Launch button. This will initiate the setup wizard.
 
5. In the Linksys X6200 Setup Wizard window, tick the I have read and accept the License Terms for using this software checkbox and then click Next to proceed.
 
 

6. Select your region, country, and ISP from the dropdown menus. If your ISP is not listed as an option, tick the My region or ISP is not in this list box and click Next.
 
 
 
7. Enter the Account name and Password provided by your ISP and click Next.
 
 
 
8. Enter your desired Network Name and Password for both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands and then click Next. The password is case-sensitive.
 
 

9. Create a Router password and click Next.
 

 
10. Click Finish.

After completing the setup wizard check if you have a valid connection. If you need to change the settings, verify and update the settings as needed.
 

Cable

1. Remove the yellow sticker labeled Use for router-only setup located on the Cable port.
 
2. Connect one end of the power cable to the modem router, and then connect the other end to the power outlet. 

3. Attach one end of the ethernet cable to the Cable port at the back of the modem router and the other end to the wall patch. Connect your computer to the modem router using an other ethernet cable.
 
4. Launch a web browser and enter the IP address of the Linksys X6200 on the Address bar then press [Enter]. The default IP address of the X6200 is 192.168.1.1. Enter "admin" for both username and password.
 
5. Go to Setup > Basic Setup and select Ethernet for Physical Type.
 
 

6. A warning prompt will appear, click OK to reboot the modem router in order to apply the setting.
 

 
7. You will be redirected to the login page. Enter the username and password and then click Log in.

8. Configure the internet settings as needed and click Save Settings.
