No. The Linksys RE4000W only supports WEP with HEX format security key. If you are using the Linksys RE4000W with a gateway that was set to WEP ASCII format, contact your internet service provider (ISP) to get assistance.

TROUBLESHOOTING

1. My router is properly configured, why can’t my range extender detect or find any wireless network?

  • Make sure that the range extender is powered ON and its power light is solid.
  • Make sure that it is within the wireless range of your router.
  • There might be signal obstructions between your router and your range extender. Try transferring your range extender to another location. Avoid placing your range extender near metal objects, masonry walls, and reflective surfaces such as mirrors.
  • Your wireless network name (SSID) may be hidden or disabled. As a result, the Setup Wizard can't see that it's available. If your wireless network name is hidden, click My network is hidden. You'll be asked to enter your SSID and password and then the Setup Wizard can connect to it and continue.

2. What should I do if I encounter errors during setup?

  • If you encountered an error while setting up your range extender, the Setup Software will only detect the range extender in its default state. To resolve this, you need to reset your range extender and then, run the Setup Software again.
  • If you get the Contact Customer support screen, reset your range extender and run the Setup Software again.

QUICK TIP: You can also download the latest setup software of the range extender from the Linksys RE4000W Downloads to ensure that you are using an updated version.

3. What settings do I need to prepare for the Linksys RE4000W setup?

Before you start the setup process, make sure that you have the following:

Active 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz wireless network connection
  • It is not necessary to have a dual-band router to make the range extender work.  But in order to maximize the capability of the range extender, a dual-band router is recommended.

Wireless Network Name (SSID)
  • If you have a dual-band router, make sure that the network name of your 2.4 GHz network is different from that of the 5 GHz network.

Password or Security Key
  • For better connection and performance, it is recommended to use the following security types: Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) / WPA2 Mixed Mode, WPA2 Personal and WPA Personal.

4. On the Status page, one of the wireless bands is grayed out but why is it still showing data?

The wireless radio will still send and receive data even if it is not connected to a network. Your range extender will always be on standby to connect to your network anytime it will be available. So, your range extender will still get signals since it is doing site surveys continuously.

5. I am experiencing continual IP Address conflict errors when either of the Linksys RE4000W is plugged in.  What should I do?

An IP Address conflict happens when two or more devices in a network have the same IP Address. To learn more about resolving IP Address conflicts, click here.

SPECIAL FEATURES

1. Does the Linksys RE4000W come with a software for initial installation?

Yes. The Linksys RE4000W comes with an installation software in its Setup CD.

2. Does the Linksys RE4000W support Quality of Service (QoS)?

The Linksys RE4000W supports Quality of Service (QoS).

3. Can I turn OFF the ethernet port light on my Linksys RE4000W?

Yes, you can turn OFF the Linksys RE4000W's LED by accessing it's web-based setup page and going to Status > Ethernet Statistics then selecting the Off radio button under Ethernet Port LED.

4. Can I connect multiple wireless devices to my Linksys RE4000W like my router or access point?

Yes, the Linksys RE4000W acts as an extension to your router or access point so you can connect multiple devices to it.

5. Can I check the connection of my network devices connected to the Linksys RE4000W including their connection to the internet?

Yes. Use diagnostic tests (Ping and Traceroute) to allow you to check the connections of your network devices, including connection to the internet. You can do this by going to Administration > Diagnostics in the range extender's web-based setup page.

6. Can I add more than one Linksys RE4000W to my existing wireless network?

Yes. But since the Linksys RE4000W only gets the wireless signal from your main router or access point, adding multiple range extenders can provide you with even lower signal, thus, giving lesser bandwidth to your wireless computers or devices that you are going to connect to these additional extenders.

7. Do I have to disconnect and reconnect to different SSIDs when I go anywhere in my house if I am using multiple range extenders?

No. Even though you are using multiple access points or extenders in your network, you can still stay connected to any one of them as you move around the house since they would be configured using the same wireless settings like the SSID and the password.
