Setting up the Linksys Mesh node using temporary WiFi with the Linksys app

If you are having issues setting up the Linksys Mesh node using Bluetooth® or you’d rather not use Bluetooth setup, you can also use the temp WiFi setup using your mobile device.

Before you begin:

  • Download or update to the latest version of the Linksys app.
  • Write down the default WiFi name and password found on the underside of the parent node.
  • Parent node - The parent node is a Linksys Mesh node or router that will be connected to your modem or internet source.
  • If you have a mix of Linksys MBE7000, MX6200, and other Intelligent Mesh nodes, make sure that the Linksys MBE7000 is the parent node in your network for better wireless performance.
  • Child node - The child node is an additional Linksys Mesh node or router that you can add.
  • Learn about the Linksys Cognitiveâ„¢ Mesh node’s or the Linksys Intelligent Mesh™ node’s light behavior.

An iOS device is used in this article. Some steps may vary slightly on an Androidâ„¢.

1. First, gather all your equipment.

If you have more than one Linksys Mesh router/node to set up, make sure to gather all your equipment in the same room as the modem. You will be able to relocate your child nodes after the setup is complete.

2. Remove the existing WiFi router.

a. I have a modem (non-WiFi) and a separate WiFi router or existing WiFi Mesh system:

  • Remove your existing WiFi router and/or all your devices from the old WiFi Mesh system.
  • Power cycle your modem.
  • Wait until your modem has rebooted and go to the next step.

b. I have a WiFi router and modem in one device, or I do not have any WiFi routers:

  • Go to the next step.

3. Connect and power ON your parent node.

If you have more than one Linksys Mesh node, choose one of the nodes then connect your modem to the internet port on the Linksys router and power it ON.

NOTES:
  • If you have a mix of Linksys MBE7000 and MX6200 nodes, make sure that the Linksys MBE7000 is the parent node in your network for better wireless performance.
  • If you have a Linksys WHW03 series, use any of the two ports. After setup, the port that you use will become your dedicated internet port.

4. Power ON all your child nodes near the parent node. They should not be more than 10 ft away or if possible, you can put them in the same room as the parent node. Make sure that no other cables are connected to any of the ports on the child nodes during the setup process besides the power adapter.

5. Connect your mobile device to the default WiFi name of the parent node (the node connected to your modem). The default WiFi credentials are located on the product label of the parent node.

Missing a node?

  • If you have more nodes to add but forgot to turn them ON in the beginning or if some of your child nodes were not detected, tap on Add more nodes to try again. The app will guide you on how to add the nodes.
  • Make sure to move your node closer to the parent node. They should be within 10 ft of the parent node or preferably in the same room as the parent node.
  • You can also tap Next to complete the setup and add them later.
  • If you receive any other error or message, this article has troubleshooting tips on how to fix common issues when setting up a node.

sf50947-024_en_v3.png

Relocate your child nodes and power them back ON. The child nodes are ready once they have a solid light. You can now connect your WiFi devices to your network.

Depending on the Mesh type models that you are setting up, the light is either going to be solid blue (Linksys WHW03, MX series, or MR series models) or solid white (Linksys MX6200, MBE7000 models) indicating the node/router is set up and connected.
