Connecting the Xbox One and Xbox One S to your network

The Xbox One® and Xbox One S can be connected to the internet through wired or WiFi connection. You can choose how to connect the console to the internet either in the initial setup or at any time after the setup of the device. This article will guide you on how to connect your console to your network.

1. Connect an ethernet cable to the ethernet port of the console.  
 
2. Connect the other end of the ethernet cable to a spare ethernet port at the back of your router. 

3. The console will automatically detect your network. To verify the connection, select Home > Settings > All settings > Network > Network settings on the console dashboard. The Current Network Status will display Wired. 

4. To test the connection, select Test network connection to connect to Xbox Live®.  
                          
NOTE: If you are setting up the console for the first time, you will be prompted to select your language and display settings before it gets connected to the network. If you connected the console to the router with an ethernet cable, it will display You're connected. Once connected, the console will continue with the next step in the setup. 
 
You now have successfully connected the console to your network via a wired connection.
 
WiFi connection
 
IMPORTANT: Take note of the following router settings before proceeding with the WiFi setup:
  • WiFi name (SSID)
  • WiFi password or security key 
  • Security type 
1. On the console dashboard, select Home > Settings > All settings > Network> Network settings > Set up wireless network.

2. On the Which one's yours? screen, select your WiFi name. 

3. Enter your password and then press Enter. The console will check the connection to your WiFi and to the internet. It will display You're connected when successful.

 
NOTE: ​If your WiFi name is not on the list of available networks, select Add wireless network. Enter your WiFi name, Security type, and WiFi password to connect to the network.
 
4. To test the connection, select Test network connection to connect to Xbox Live.  

NOTE: If the console does not detect any wired connection, it will automatically scan for WiFi connections. To connect, select your WiFi name and then enter your password. It will display You're connected when successful. Once connected, the console will continue with the next step in the setup. 
 
You now have successfully connected the console to your WiFi.
