Before you start the setup process, make sure to have the following:
- An active 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz wireless network connection
- Wireless Network Name (SSID) and Password or Security Key
Plug the Linksys RE6250 into a power outlet and wait for the light indicator to turn Orange.
NOTE: Plug the range extender into a power outlet halfway between your router and the dead zone.
Connect to the range extender’s default SSID, Linksys Extender Setup, using a wireless computer or a mobile device. On your smartphone or wireless computer, make sure you have a strong Wi-Fi signal from your router in that location.
After you have connected to the range extender's default SSID, enter "http://extender.linksys.com" or "192.168.1.1" in a supported browser's Address bar and hit [ENTER] to launch the Setup Wizard.
Make sure to read and agree to the End User License Agreement then click Start Setup.
When prompted, select your wireless network name (SSID).
NOTE: In the example below, Office2016 is used.
Enter your Network Password or security key.
An _Ext suffix will be automatically added to your Network name. If you would like to personalize the set Network name, Password and Security mode of your range extender's 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, enter and select them in the fields provided. Otherwise, just click on Next.
The Spot Finder page will appear. This feature determines the signal strength between your range extender and your router. If your range extender is too close or too far from your router, click the Find better location button and follow the on-screen instructions.
Once you have found the best location for the range extender, click the Back link to proceed with the setup.
Enter your Email Address to register your range extender.
QUICK TIP: To get special offers and updates from Linksys, tick the checkbox before you click Next. If you have already registered your range extender, click Skip to proceed.
Create and confirm your admin password. You can also add an optional password hint for easier recovery. Click Save once done.
The range extender will go through a firmware checkup. If a new firmware is available, it will proceed with the update. Otherwise, it will proceed to the next step.
Once the button labeled Next turns blue, click on it.
You should now have successfully set up your Linksys RE6250 AC750 Wi-Fi Range Extender. You can click the Print button or write down the settings and keep it in your file.
