Configuring multiple VLANs on your Linksys Gigabit VPN Router, LRT2x4

The 802.1Q is a networking standard that belongs to IEEE 802.  It supports Virtual LANs (VLANs) on an Ethernet network.  This article will demonstrate how to configure VLANs using an LRT2x4 router.

In the network topology below, the company has four (4) departments: HR, Sales, R&D, and Advertising.  The following configuration would only allow Sales (VLAN 2) and Advertising (VLAN 4) departments to communicate with each other but not with other departments.

DepartmentVLANIP Address
HRVLAN 1192.168.1.0
SalesVLAN 2192.168.2.0
R&DVLAN 3192.168.3.0
AdvertisingVLAN 4192.168.4.0
