Positioning the external antennas of the Linksys WRT32X, WRT3200ACM, WRT1900ACS, and WRT1900AC

Leveraging the Wireless-AC standard, the Linksys WRT32X, WRT3200ACM, WRT1900ACS, and WRT1900AC deliver innovative Beamforming technology.  Beamforming enables the router to identify and connect directly with other devices rather than simply sending out wireless signals in a general direction.  Now you can experience faster network speeds, better wireless range, reduced interference from other devices, and stronger Wi-Fi connections.

Beamforming technology helps improve the quality of voice, streaming of video, and other bandwidth – and latency- sensitive transmissions.  With this technology, more data reaches the targeted device instead of radiating out into the atmosphere since Beamforming-supported devices focus their signal toward each client.  You can increase throughput and range by using multiple antennas in which data is sent and received.

The Linksys WRT1900AC, WRT1900ACS, WRT3200ACM and WRT32X come with four external antennas that:
  • Project large, overlapping Wi-Fi patterns for maximum signal strength and coverage
  • Engineered to enhance dual-band communication
  • Adjustable to customize your wireless signal for single or multi-story buildings
  • Removable to accommodate antenna upgrades
  • Provide antenna diversity for a more robust connection with wireless clients

All external antennas can be adjusted to different positions depending on your preference.  However, to optimize your antennas’ maximum signal, the following positions are recommended:
Optimal Antenna Positioning
Recommended for multi-story environments:
  • Front antennas are in upward position while rear antennas are angled 45° outwards (away from the router)
  • Rear antennas are in upward position while front antennas are angled 45° outwards (away from the router)
Recommended for single-story environments:
  • All external antennas are in upward position

In order to obtain the maximum performance of your WRT1900AC, WRT1900ACS, WRT3200ACM, and WRT32X in wireless range and coverage, you can also install the Linksys High-Gain Antennas.  These dual-band antennas will amplify the transmitting and receiving capabilities of the connected the device.  To learn more, click here.
