Troubleshooting the Linksys EA8100 to connect to the internet

There are instances when you may encounter internet connection problems while connected to the Linksys EA8100.  Below are some tips that can help you check and solve internet connection problems in your network.

Check the physical connection and light indicators on the router

Check the cable connections and lights on the Linksys EA8100.  Ensure that the light corresponding to the port on the router where you had connected your computer is lit up and the cables are properly plugged in.

Verify the Wi-Fi settings

You must know the Wi-Fi settings of your Linksys router before you connect your computer or device to the network.  You must have the correct Wi-Fi name and password.  If your default Wi-Fi name is Linksys, it is recommended that you personalize it for security purposes.  Also, you can check if the computer is getting a valid IP address from the router.

Power cycle the modem and/or router

Unplug the modem, the Linksys router and the computer (in that order) from their respective power outlets then wait for 30 seconds before plugging them back.  Re-plug the modem first followed by the router and then the computer.  Wait for the lights on all the devices to stabilize then check if you can go online (try accessing any website).

Bypass the router and confirm the internet connectivity with a direct connection to the modem

If your devices at home are not getting any signal or internet connection from the Linksys router, isolate the issue by connecting your computer directly to the modem through an ethernet cable.  If the computer can connect to the internet, check the wireless capability of your non-working device; it might be disabled or not installed properly.  If you cannot go online, contact StarHub for assistance.

Check the firmware and consider performing an update

A firmware update contains encoded instructions to help improve the performance of your Linksys router.  It could also resolve issues that the previous firmware version may have.  The Auto Firmware Update feature which allows your router to automatically update whenever there is a new firmware available is enabled on the Linksys EA8100 by default.
