Manually configuring a Linksys Wireless-N Bridge to work with an access point

The Linksys Wireless-N Dual Band Ethernet Bridges (WET610N, WES610N) allow wired Ethernet-based devices to connect and access the Internet wirelessly.

This article will guide you on how to install your wireless-N bridge using the web-based setup page.  For instructions, follow these steps:

i.   Checking the wireless settings of the access point
ii.  Setting up the devices
iii. Configuring the bridge

NOTE:  The following steps can also be done using a router in place of the access point.

Checking the wireless settings of the access point

The wireless Ethernet bridge and the access point’s settings should match in order for them to work properly.  You must first identify the following wireless settings on your access point:

Wireless Network Name (SSID)
Wireless Security Mode (WPA/WPA2 Personal or WEP)
Network Key or Passphrase

NOTE:  If your WAP610N is still not set up, click here for instructions.  For Wireless-G access points, click here.

Setting up the devices

Connect a computer to the bridge using an Ethernet cable and make sure that it is within the access point’s wireless range before powering ON all the devices.

NOTE:  Images may vary depending on the type/model of computer, access point and Ethernet bridge you are using.

Configuring the bridge

Step 1:
Launch a web browser (e.g., Internet Explorer, Safari).

Step 2:
Enter “http://169.254.1.250” in the Address bar.

Step 3:
Leave the User name blank and enter “admin” in the Password field.

NOTE:  If you are unable to login using the said credentials, you may reset the bridge to factory defaults by holding the Reset button with a pin or paper clip for 10 seconds.  After resetting, it may take several seconds before you can access the web-based setup page again.

Step 4:
Click on Wireless > Basic Wireless Settings.

Step 5:
Set the radio button to Manual then enter your access point’s Network Name (SSID).

Step 6:
Select the Security Mode that matches your access point’s settings.

Step 7:
Enter the passphrase or network key based on your access point's security settings.

WPA/WPA2 Personal

WEP

Step 8:
Click Save Settings.  It may take several seconds for the bridge to connect to the wireless network.

Step 9:
Click on Status > Wireless Network.  The Link Status should say Connected and the Network Name (SSID) should display your wireless network’s SSID.

Step 10:
Connect the bridge to any of your Ethernet-enabled device using an Ethernet cable.

The bridge should now be in sync with the access point.
