My Linksys RE9000 is not detecting my Wi-Fi during setup

Scenario:  My Linksys RE9000 is not detecting my Wi-Fi during setup.

The Linksys RE9000 Range Extender, by default, scans for a 5 GHz Wi-Fi to use it as a dedicated backhaul (uplink) connection to a dual-band router.  If your Linksys RE9000 is unable to see the 5 GHz network, here are things you can check (in the following order):

  • Does your existing wireless router support dual-band networks?  If your existing Wi-Fi only supports a 2.4 GHz connection, then select the Choose 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi band... option.  Your extender will then scan for the 2.4 GHz connection.

  • If the extender is too far away, try to move the extender closer for setup.  After setup, you can move it to another location.
  • The Linksys RE9000 does NOT support Dynamic Frequency Selection (DFS) channels.  If your router supports DFS channels, it is possible that your router is using a DFS channel; therefore, the extender will not detect the 5 GHz band.
NOTE:  DFS channels are 52-64 and 100-140.  You can contact support for the wireless router to confirm if the router supports DFS channels and if it is using one of the DFS channels.  If it does, they need to change the router’s 5 GHz channel to a non-DFS channel and then run the setup again on the Linksys RE9000.
