How to create a cluster on the Linksys LAPAC2600

The Cluster Settings page on your Linksys LAPAC2600 Business Pro Series Wireless-AC Dual-Band Access Point allows you to manage the access point’s cluster function.  This function provides a centralized method to administer and control wireless services across multiple devices.  When the access point is successfully clustered, you can view, deploy, configure and secure the wireless network as a single entity.

NOTES:
  • An access point cluster can only be created in the same subnet of a network and can support 16 access points of the same model number.  In each cluster, only one access point must be manually configured as Master.
  • The Linksys LAPAC2600 supports eight access point members in a cluster on firmware version 1.0.0.004 and 1.0.1.000.  The future firmware versions above 1.0.1 will support 16 members.
  • A Cloud access point like the Linksys LAPAC2600C cannot be clustered with a Non-Cloud access point such as the Linksys LAPAC2600 and vice versa.

Step 1:
Connect the first Linksys LAPAC2600 to the network.  This serves as your Master Access Point.

NOTE:  In this scenario, two Linksys LAPAC2600 devices are used.

Step 2:
Access your first access point's web interface.  To know how, click here.

Step 3:
Go to Configuration > Wireless > Basic Settings.

NOTE:  In this scenario, we are going to configure the wireless settings.  This step is NOT necessary to create the cluster but we will use it to show how the Slave Access Point will inherit the Shared settings after joining the cluster.  Make sure to take note of the type of settings that are Shared vs. Unshared.
