Enabling the MLO feature of the Linksys MBE7000

The Linksys MBE7000 supports Multi-Link Operation (MLO). With MLO, Wi-Fi® 7 establishes simultaneous connections between a parent node and a child node or between the router and Wi-Fi 7 devices. These links are established using the 5 GHz and 6 GHz bands, which will then help improve data throughput, reduce latency, and make the overall connection more reliable.

Notes:

  • The MLO feature is turned OFF by default.
  • The MLO is currently in beta. The 802.11be standard is expected to receive the IEEE workgroup approval by September 2024. Wi-Fi Alliance is expected to begin Interoperability testing shortly but continue through CY24. Wi-Fi 7 software capabilities such as MLO are expected to get improvements over the next one year. Also, various device vendors are expected to roll out support for MLO via software updates. This is why, MLO is tagged to be in the beta phase.

To enable it, follow the steps below.

Things to keep in mind before turning ON the MLO feature:

  • All three WiFi radios must be turned ON.
  • All three WiFi radios must have the same WiFi name, WiFi mode, and security type.
  • If any of the wireless settings are changed as previously mentioned, MLO will not work properly.
  • A WiFi restart will be needed to save the settings.
