How to set up a Linksys Mesh router after a reset

If you need to reset the parent router (router connected to your modem), there are a few methods on how to set up your router and child nodes again. This article applies to Linksys MBE7000 and MX6200 models.

Before you begin:

    • Parent router/node - A Linksys Mesh router that is connected to the modem.
    • Child node - Another Linksys Mesh node used to extend your WiFi network.
    • Mixed environments: A network with Linksys Intelligent Meshâ„¢ nodes and Linksys Cognitiveâ„¢ Mesh nodes.
        • In a mix of Linksys MBE7000 and MX6200 nodes in the network, the Linksys MBE7000 should be the parent node for better WiFi performance.

Choose one of the following setup methods:

In this example, the Linksys MBE7000 is the parent node.

5-Button Push setup

The 5-Button Push method is the easiest and quickest way to set up the parent and child nodes.

1. Gather all your equipment in the same area as your modem. After the nodes are set up, you can relocate your child nodes as needed.

2. Power on all your nodes. The child nodes need to be near the parent router, no more than 10 ft away, preferably in the same room.

3. Make sure that all your nodes are ready for setup and have a solid blue light. If any of the nodes do not have a solid blue light, reset them by holding down the reset button for about 15 seconds, then wait until the light becomes solid blue.

4. Remove any existing router.

a. I have a modem with a separate router.

    • Disconnect your existing router.
    • Power cycle your modem.
    • Wait until your modem has rebooted and go to the next step.

b. I have a WiFi router and modem combined in one device, or I do not have any existing routers in my home.

    • Go to the next step.

5. Connect the Linksys MBE7000 parent router from the internet port with an ethernet cable to your modem.

6. During setup, refrain from connecting any devices to the child nodes except for the power adapter.

7. Press the Reset button located at the bottom of the Linksys router that is connected to the modem five times within 5 seconds (do not hold). The light on the parent router will start blinking.

8. If you powered ON any child nodes from the previous steps, the router will begin to scan for unconfigured nodes. Proceed to the next step if you do not have any child nodes to add.

Once the child nodes have been detected, the light on the child nodes will also begin to blink. This means that pairing is in progress.

9. Wait for the light on all your nodes to be solid white, which indicates they are ready to use.

10. Once all your nodes display a solid white light, you can relocate the child nodes and connect your clients to the WiFi network. The default WiFi credentials are located on the parent router's product label.

You can now log in to the Linksys app or the router's web interface to manage and customize your network settings
