Setting up Parental Controls on your Linksys X6200

If your children spend more time on the internet than they should, you can limit their internet access by using the Parental Controls feature in the Linksys X6200.

Before you begin:

  • Check the time setting on the router and make sure that it is set to the time zone of your current location. This is to ensure that internet access will be blocked at the exact time you specified. You can change this setting in the Time Zone section of the router's web browser.
  • Some steps in this article may vary depending on the version of your device.

Restricting internet access on certain hours or days

1. Open a web browser, enter "192.168.1.1" in the Address bar, then press [Enter]. When prompted for a username and password, enter your login credentials, and click on OK or Log In.

2. Click on Access Policy, then click the Enabled radio button.

3. Under Target Devices, click Add.

4. Select the device that you want to set up with Parental Controls then click OK.

The device will now show up in the Target Devices section. You can only set restrictions on a device that is on the list. You can click Add, Remove, or Rename if you wish to update the list.

5. In the Schedule section, you can select between Always or Specific times.
  • Always – This will permanently block the internet access of the selected user.
  • Specific times – This allows you to set a time range for blocking internet access. You can set restrictions both on school nights and weekends. The start time can be set anytime between midnight to noon and the end time between 12:30 AM to 11:30 AM. You cannot set any time range beyond these given values.
6. Click on Save Settings.

7. Enter your existing Parental Controls password or create one if this is the first time you are setting up Parental Controls. This password will be used if you want to edit or disable your Parental Controls settings.

You can also add a secret question and answer that you can use if you forget your password and you need to reset it. Click OK to save the settings.
