Setting up the Linksys MX5500 through the LinksysSmartWiFi.com page

Before you begin:

  • To setup the Linksys Atlas Pro 6 Dual-Band Mesh WiFi through the web browser, you can use either a laptop or desktop computer.
  • Connect your modem or modem router to the internet port on the node.
  • If you have just a standard modem, you may need to power cycle the modem by turning it OFF and back ON.
  • Write down the default WiFi name and password and Recovery Key located on the bottom of the parent node.

Directions

Step 1:
Make sure that your modem is connected to the internet port on the node.  Power ON the node and wait until the light is solid purple.

Step 2:
Connect your laptop to the default WiFi name and enter the default WiFi password when prompted.

NOTE:  You can also connect to the node via an ethernet port.

Step 3:
Open a browser, enter "https://192.168.1.1", press [ENTER], then click on the mobile image.

Step 4:
If this is your first time setting up the node, you will need to create a new password.  The Linksys MX5500 with the latest firmware does not have a default admin password.

To create a new password, try one of the following methods:

A.  Enter admin and click on Sign In.  You will receive the message below.  Click on create a new one.  You will be taken to a new screen where you will be prompted to create a new password.

B.  Click on Reset password, enter the recovery key located on the product label on the bottom of the router, then click Submit.

Step 5:
Create a new admin password and an optional password hint, then tap on Reset.

Step 6:
Once you have created a new password, you will be able to log in to the dashboard.

Step 7:
Click on the CA link at the bottom right-hand side.

Step 8:
Click on Connectivity and click on the CA Router Setup tab

Step 9:
Create a WiFi name (SSID) and WiFi password and click on Setup Node.  The password for the WiFi is case sensitive.

NOTE:  While the settings are saving, you will lose WiFi connectivity temporarily.

Step 10:
The light on top of the node will start to flash.  Once you see your new WiFi name in the list,
connect to it to continue the setup.

Step 11:
You will now get the Your Master Node is now Configured message.

Step 12:
Check if your node is online.  If the light on the node is solid blue, your node is online, you can go to the next step.  If the light is not blue, you can try the following:

A.  Power cycle your modem and check if the light turns solid blue after a few minutes.

B.  If you are using a PPPoE connection, you will need to enter your internet settings manually.  Go to the Internet Settings tab, click Edit and choose PPPoE.  Enter your PPPoE information and click Save.  Wait for the light on the node to turn solid blue.

Also, on the dashboard, the Network status widget will display your connection status.

Step 13:
Do you have additional nodes to add?

A.  Yes - Power on your child node, wait until the light is solid purple, then click on Add Wireless Child Nodes, then wait for the child node’s light to turn solid blue.

For wired nodes, connect your nodes to the network with an ethernet cable, wait until the light is solid purple, then click on Add Wired Child Nodes.  When the child nodes have a solid blue light, click Ok.

B.  No - If you do not have any other child nodes to add, go to the next step.

Step 14:
Your network is now set up.

If you want to use the Linksys app to manage your settings from any mobile device, you must link your network to your Linksys cloud account.  You can connect your mobile device to the WiFi name you just created.  On your device, launch the Linksys app, then tap on Manage Your Wi-Fi.

Enter your existing Linksys cloud account credentials and tap Log in.

If you don’t have an account, tap on Create an account, tap Add to Account, and enter the admin password you created earlier.

Tap on Add to Account again.

You have now linked your network to your Linksys cloud account.
