Setting up the Linksys Mesh node using temporary WiFi with the Linksys app

If you are having issues setting up the Linksys Mesh node using Bluetooth® or you’d rather not use Bluetooth setup, you can also use the temporary WiFi setup using your mobile device. This is applicable to the following devices:

    • Linksys Cognitive™ Mesh series: Linksys MBE7000, MX6200, MR20WH and MR55WH
    • Linksys Intelligent Mesh™ series: Linksys MX2000, MX5500, MX8500, MX4200, MX5300, WHW03, MR5500, MR2000, MR7500, MR9600, MR7350, MR6350, MR9000, and MR8300

    Before you begin:

    • Download or update to the latest version of the Linksys app.
    • Write down the default WiFi credentials located on the product label.
    • Parent node - The parent node is a Linksys Mesh node or router that will be connected to your modem or internet source.
    • If you have a mix of Linksys MBE7000, MX6200, and other Linksys Intelligent Mesh nodes, make sure that the Linksys MBE7000 is the parent node in your network for better wireless performance.
    • Child node - The child node is an additional Linksys Mesh node or router that you can add to extend your WiFi network.
    • Get to know the light behavior of your Linksys Cognitive Mesh node (MX6200 and MBE7000; and MR20WH and MR55WH) or Linksys Intelligent Mesh node.

A Linksys MBE7000 and iOS device is used in this article. Some steps may vary slightly on an Android™.

    1. First, gather all your equipment near your modem.

If you have more than one Linksys Mesh router/node to set up, make sure to gather all your equipment in the same room as the modem. You will be able to relocate your child nodes after the setup is complete.

    2. Remove the existing WiFi router.

    a. I have a modem (non-WiFi) and a separate WiFi router or existing WiFi Mesh system:
    • Remove your existing WiFi router and/or all your devices from your old system.
    • Power cycle your modem.
    • Wait until your modem has rebooted and go to the next step.
    b. I have a WiFi router and modem in one device, or I do not have any WiFi routers:
    • Go to the next step.
    3. Power ON all your nodes. The light will be either solid blue or solid purple, depending on the model, indicating that the nodes are ready for setup. If any of the nodes display a different color, hold down the reset button for about 15 seconds, then wait for the light to turn solid.
    Ready for setup
MBE7000, MX6200MX series, MR routers series, and WHW03 series
    4. Connect one of your Linksys Mesh nodes to your modem using an ethernet cable. If you have multiple nodes, select one and connect your modem to its internet port.
If you have a Linksys WHW03 series node, you can use either of its two ports. Once set up, the port you choose will become your dedicated internet port.
For the child nodes, make sure that no other cables are connected to any of the ports on the nodes during the setup process besides the power adapter.
    5. Connect your mobile device to the default WiFi name of the parent node (the node connected to your modem). The default WiFi credentials are located on the product label of the parent node.

    6. Launch the Linksys app. Tap on Set up a New Wi-Fi Network (iOS) or Launch setup (Android).

    7. Tap on Velop and Mesh Routers and then follow the on-screen prompts.

    8. If you receive the following screen, tap on I would rather set up without Bluetooth.

    9. If you have already connected to the modem and powered ON your parent node, tap Next, then tap It’s connected

If you haven’t done so, follow the wiring instructions and tap Next when ready.

    10. If you have already powered ON your child nodes, tap Next. If you haven’t done so, follow the wiring instructions and tap Next when ready.

    11. Make sure all your nodes have a solid light, then tap on Node light is solid. Keep your phone near the nodes while they are being set up.

      12. Internet checking will begin.

If no internet connection is detected, you'll encounter the following screen. Tap on Checking your wiring to check the wiring or tap on Restarting your modem again to restart the modem. You can also tap Or, try again.

If your internet connection requires your PPPoE settings or a Static IP address, tap on Enter them here then select your internet connection type and enter your settings. Once connected, the app will proceed to the next step.

      13. Customize your WiFi name and password. The WiFi password is case-sensitive. Once done, tap Next.

      14. On the Privacy Pledge screen, tap Continue when ready.

      15. Log in to your existing Linksys cloud account to access and manage your network remotely.

If you haven’t created one, tap on Create account and follow the on-screen prompts to create an account.

You can also tap Skip for now and create an account later.

      16. Your network and child nodes are being configured, please wait.

      17. Connect to your new WiFi name when prompted, then return to the app and tap Next to continue with the setup.

After connecting to your new WiFi name, the network configuration will resume.

      18. After configuring all your nodes, the screen will show the number of nodes successfully detected and configured on your network. Tap Next.
You have the option to rename your nodes after completing the setup process.

      Missing a node?

      • If you have more nodes to add but forgot to turn them ON in the beginning or if some of your child nodes were not detected, tap on Add more nodes to try again.
      • Make sure to move your node closer to the parent node. They should be within 10 ft of the parent node or preferably in the same room as the parent node.
      • You can also tap Next to complete the setup and add them later.
      • Troubleshooting tips for setup issues with the Linksys app.
