Installing the Linksys WUSB6400M drivers using the Setup Utility on a Windows® XP or Vista® computer

The Linksys WUSB6400M AC1200 USB Wi-Fi Adapter is a dual-band adapter that upgrades your Windows® or Mac® computer’s wireless adapter to the latest Wi-Fi standard.  This article will help you install the drivers of your wireless adapter using the Setup.exe file on a Windows Vista® or XP computer.

Warning:  Windows XP and Vista is no longer supported by Microsoft.  As mentioned in Microsoft support page online, End of support refers to the date when Microsoft no longer provides automatic fixes, updates, or online technical assistance.  This is the time to make sure you have the latest available update or service pack installed.  Without Microsoft support, you will no longer receive security updates that can help protect your PC from harmful viruses, spyware, and other malicious software that can steal your personal information.  For more information click on the following links:

Please be aware that the supported Windows Operating Systems are Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10.  If you would like to use the WUSB6400M adapter on your Windows Vista or XP computer, you can use the driver from these links:

NOTE:  There is no plan to address any future issues for the WUSB6400M using Windows Vista or XP computer.

Before proceeding, make sure the Linksys WUSB6400M is NOT connected to your computer.

 
Step 1:
Insert the CD into your computer’s CD Drive and run the Setup.exe file.

QUICK TIP:  If you lost your setup CD, you can download the Setup Software from the WUSB6400M Downloads page instead.

Step 2:
Click Next >.

Step 3:
Read the License agreement and check I accept the terms of the license agreement. Click Next >.

Step 4:
Wait until you are prompted to connect the wireless USB adapter.

NOTE:  If you receive a Windows Security prompt, click on Install.

If you haven't connected the wireless USB adapter and the progress bar has completed, you will receive the Unable to find your adapter! message.  Connect or reconnect your wireless USB adapter, then click Yes to try again.

Step 5:
Once your wireless USB adapter is detected, it will install the drivers.

Step 6:
Click Finish.

Step 7:
If your computer has a built-in wireless USB adapter, you need to disable it to make sure you are connecting to your wireless network using your WUSB6400M adapter.

Step 8:
You may now connect to your wireless network.  If you have a dual-band wireless network, make sure you connect to the 5 GHz network for faster speeds.
