Where can I disable SSID Broadcasting in Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Account?
Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Account and SSID Broadcasting
The Router Setting for SSID Broadcasting is no longer an option in Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Routers. This option allowed users to “hide” their router by not broadcasting its wireless network name (SSID) so that others could not see it.
- There is no security benefit in hiding the SSID. There are variety of tools that show the SSID even when it is not broadcasted. The best way to protect a wireless network from unauthorized users is to set a strong wireless password, which is done automatically during setup, and is easily managed using the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Account.
- Hiding the router’s SSID can prevent legitimate users and other devices and services in the home network from seeing the router and connecting to it.
- The SSID Broadcasting option, when disabled, is incompatible with Wi-Fi Protected Setup™(WPS), which Linksys supports.
Impact to Current Linksys Connect Users
If the router’s SSID Broadcast is Disabled when the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router firmware is installed, the option will no longer be available in the Router Settings section. The network will continue to be hidden unless the user resets the router to factory settings. Resetting the router will set the SSID broadcast option back to Enabled again.
Customers who prefer to hide their router SSID
If you still prefer to hide your SSID, you have the option to roll back to the Classic firmware. For step-by-step roll back instructions on Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Routers, click here.
