Linksys Cloud Manager 2.0 - What’s New? 

Congratulations on taking the leap to migrate your existing Linksys Cloud Manager 1.0 access points to the Linksys Cloud Manager 2.0!  First, let’s talk about what the differences are between the current cloud platform ( and our new cloud platform (

There are a lot of new features available for free with Linksys Cloud Manager 2.0.  Most importantly, you will get Limited Lifetime Cloud Management for the lifetime of the product, instead of just 5 years.  Although we are not forcing customers to make the switch, we highly encourage that you do, especially as your existing devices approach the 5-year license end date.  There are a few features that you will lose which we want to highlight.  Please make sure you are comfortable with the feature changes before migrating.
1.  Once upgraded, the access points will not be able to revert to the previous cloud platform.

2.  The Local Standalone mode will be removed.  The access point will be Cloud-Managed only.  If you are using the device in Standalone Mode or plan to do so in the future,

3.  The 7-day historical statistics will be removed.  Real-time statistics will remain in the dashboard.  A historical reporting service will be offered in the future as an optional add-on subscription service.

4.  The Rogue AP Detection, Band Steering, and Client Blocking are removed in the short term.  They will be enhanced then returned to the new platform at a later date.  DO NOT UPGRADE IF YOU CURRENTLY RELY ON ANY OF THESE FEATURES.

5.  With Linksys LAPAC2600C, the Secondary Non-PoE+ Port will be disabled after the upgrade.  If you currently use the Secondary Port for Link Aggregation with a smart/managed switch or as an uplink to your internet router, PLEASE DO NOT UPGRADE AND STAY ON LINKSYS CLOUD MANAGER 1.0.  Otherwise, you can continue to use the Primary PoE+ Port as the uplink to your internet router and upgrade to Linksys Cloud Manager 2.0.

6.  Performing the remote firmware upgrade to Linksys Cloud Manager 2.0 will CLEAR OUT any existing access point configuration settings, INCLUDING VLAN SETTINGS.  If you have VLAN enabled on the access point and it is connected to a VLAN-aware only switch port, the access point will not be able to get back online after the firmware upgrade.  After the upgrade, please make sure the access point has access to a VLAN-unaware network or move the access point to a VLAN-unaware switch port so that it may get back online.  Once back online, the new configuration will be pushed to the access point and you can move it back to your VLAN-aware switch port.

  • You may have enabled a tagged / untagged VLAN in the access point settings in order for VLAN Tagging per SSID to work in Linksys Cloud Manager 1.0.  This workaround will not be needed in Linksys Cloud Manager 2.0.  If you are using a Management VLAN, you can continue to enable this setting per access point in Linksys Cloud Manager 2.0.
  • If you are using static IP configuration on the access points, record the IP settings so you can recreate this in Linksys Cloud Manager 2.0.
  • Record the descriptive names of the access points so you can recreate this in Linksys Cloud Manager 2.0.
  • Record all of your access point -> SSID associations so you can recreate this easily after migrating to Linksys Cloud Manager 2.0.

If you plan to stay on Linksys Cloud Manager 1.0 for the time being, please make sure you update your access points to the latest Linksys Cloud Manager 1.0 firmware.  Firmware updates from the cloud will be disabled as it will be switched to the Linksys Cloud Manager 2.0.

New Users

If you are a completely new user and your access points have not been associated with a Linksys Cloud Manager 1.0 account, you can skip this guide.  Go straight to to create an account and add your access points.  You can check out Linksys Cloud Manager 2.0 – Getting Started Guide for help.

Existing Users

Before you get started, you will need to document a few things:

1.  Document any serial numbers and MAC addresses from your devices.  You will need this information to add the device to your new Linksys Cloud Manager 2.0 account.  We require both the serial number and the MAC address of the device as a security measure to ensure you own the device that you are trying to add.  You can find this information at the bottom of your device or on the product label on the box.

NOTE:  The MAC address and serial number can be found on the backplate of the unit or on the box it came in.

You can also find this information by clicking on the access point in your current Linksys Cloud Manager 1.0 account at  This will make it easy to copy the information to a text file for safe keeping.

2.  In your current Linksys Cloud Manager 1.0, go to the organization where your access points are and document your Organization code under Account Settings > Organization.

3.  Register a new Linksys Cloud Manager 2.0 account at

4.  Create a new organization and network.

5.  Under Devices, proceed to add the existing access points previously recorded.  Notice that we have now rearranged the fields, so they match the order of the label on the box, serial number first then MAC address.

6.    You will be instructed to input your organization’s Authorization Code that you previously recorded from Linksys Cloud Manager 1.0.

7.  Proceed with renaming the access point, if needed, then perform the firmware upgrade.  Make sure the access point is online for the best upgrade experience.  WARNING:  YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO REVERT TO LINKSYS CLOUD MANAGER 1.0 AFTER THE UPGRADE.  Please make sure you are ready to completely migrate to Linksys Cloud Manager 2.0 and accept the Terms of Service before starting the upgrade. 

The upgrade will also take down the existing wireless networks so make sure you choose a time where business will not be interrupted, such as before or after business hours.  Do not unplug your access point from power or from the network during this time.

8.  If the access point is offline, you can cancel and it will enter Pending adoption status.

9.   Once the access point is online, you can click on the AP Link in the Linksys Cloud Manager 2.0 to initiate the upgrade again and accept the Terms of Service.  This upgrade will take a few minutes and, as a reminder, the wireless network will be down during this time.

10.  Once the access point's firmware update is finished, it will reboot and connect to the new Linksys Cloud Manager 2.0 portal.

Upgrade Issues and Troubleshooting

If the remote firmware upgrade doesn’t work the first time, you can try the following:

1.  On the Linksys Cloud Manager 1.0, reboot the access point via the cloud or have someone onsite power cycle the device.  Once the access point is back online on the Linksys Cloud Manager 1.0, try the access point link on the Linksys Cloud Manager 2.0 and initiate the firmware upgrade again.

2.  If that still doesn’t work, we recommend uploading the firmware locally.  You can find the Linksys Cloud Manager 2.0 firmware
