Configuring the IP Settings on a Linksys Managed Switch for Business

The IP Settings page of your Linksys Managed Switch for Business contains fields for assigning IP addresses. These IP addresses are either defined as static or are retrieved using Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP).

In this page, you can do the following:

  • Configure a static IP address for your switch
  • Configure your DNS servers

A switch supports configuration of multiple IP interfaces. To access this page, follow these steps:

1. Access the web interface of your switch. For instructions, click here.

2. Click on the menu icon located at the upper-left corner of the web interface.

3. Click on Configure > System Settings.

NOTE:  A few settings may vary by model.  In the example below, Linksys LGS352MPC is used.

4. Click on IP Settings.

5. Under IP Settings, you can configure the following:

IPv4 Management
IPv6 Management
IPv4 Network
IPv6 Network

IPv4 Management

This page allows for you to modify the management VLAN interface whether it is set to static IP or DHCP for auto-configuration.

If the device fails to retrieve an IP address through DHCP, the default IP address is 192.168.1.251 and the factory default subnet mask is 255.255.255.0.

Click Apply to save the changes or Reset to discard them.

IPv6 Management

IPv6 is an upgraded version to IPv4.  It provides more available IP addresses as well as other benefits. To access the switch over an IPv6 network, you must first configure it with IPv6 information.

To configure IPv6 for the switch, click on Edit for the default VLAN 1 or click the + Add
button to add a new VLAN ID.

Click Apply to save the changes or Cancel to discard them.

IPv4 Network

In this page, you can add an IPv4 VLAN ID.

Click the + Add button and enter the settings to add a new IPv4 address. Click the Apply button when done.

  • VLAN ID:  Specify the VLAN ID.
  • Address:  This field allows the entry of an IPv4 address to be assigned to this IP interface.  Enter the IP address of your switch in dotted decimal notation.
  • Subnet Mask:  A subnet mask separates the IP address into the network and host addresses.  A bitmask determines the extent of the subnet that the switch is on.  This should be labeled in the form: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, where each xxx is a number (represented in decimals) between 0 and 255.  The value should be 255.0.0.0 for a Class A network, 255.255.0.0 for a Class B network, and 255.255.255.0 for a Class C network, but custom subnet masks are allowed.  Enter the IP subnet mask of your switch in dotted decimal notation.  The factory default value is 255.255.255.0.

In this page, you can add an IPv6 VLAN ID.

Click the + Add button and enter the settings to add a new IPv6 address. Click the Apply button when done.

  • VLAN ID:  Specify the VLAN ID.
  • Address:  Add an IPv6 Address.
  • Prefix Length: Default value is 128.  Value range is 0-128.
