HARDWARE INFORMATION
What is the Linksys RE1000?The Linksys RE1000 lets you repeat the wireless signal of any access point or router to provide internet connectivity in hard-to-reach areas through a wired or wireless connection.
What are the default IP address, username, and password of the range extender's web browser?The default IP address is 192.168.1.1. When you access the web browser, leave the user name blank, and use "admin" for the password.

Once the Linksys RE1000 is connected to your router, the router will automatically assign a different IP address to it so an IP address conflict will not occur. 
How do I reset the Linksys RE1000 to factory default settings?Press and hold the Reset button on the top of the device for 8 seconds then release. through its web browser. 
How do I access the Linksys RE1000's web-based setup page?You can log in to the Linksys RE1000’s web-based setup page by launching a web-browser and entering the IP address of your range extender in the address field. 
How can I see the wireless devices that are connected to my Linksys RE1000?You can view the names, MAC address and hop number information by going to Status > WLAN Statistics > Wireless Clients Table on the Linksys RE1000’s web-based setup page.
Can I set up a password to my Linksys RE1000 that is different from my router or access point?Yes. Just make sure to take note of the password to avoid problems in logging in to the range extender’s web-based setup page.
Can I set up my Linksys RE1000 without using the installation CD?Yes. You can manually set up your Linksys RE1000. 

INITIAL SETUP
How can I set up the Linksys RE1000 to connect to my router or access point?

There are three ways to set up the Linksys RE1000:

1. By running the that comes with the device.  

2. By using the Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ (WPS) button on the range extender if your router also supports this feature.  

3. By configuring the device through the web-based setup page


WIFI SECURITY
What types of WiFi security modes does the Linksys RE1000 support?The extender supports the following WiFi security options: WPA2™/WPA™ Mixed Mode, WPA2 Personal, WPA Personal and WEP.
What would be the difference between using WEP and WPA/WPA2 security type on my Linksys RE1000?WPA2 is stronger security encryption than WEP. 
Is the Linksys RE1000 compatible with older network standards?Yes. However, it will only run on Wireless-N if the device it is connected to is also running on the same standard.

The Linksys RE1000 is not compatible with the Wireless-AC technology.

Does the Linksys RE1000 support WEP with an ASCII format security key?No. The Linksys RE1000 only supports WEP with a HEX format security key. If you are using the Linksys RE1000 with a gateway that was set to WEP ASCII format, contact your internet service provider (ISP) to get assistance.

TROUBLESHOOTING
My router is properly configured, why can’t my range extender detect/find any WiFi?Follow these troubleshooting steps to resolve this issue:
 
1. Make sure the range extender is powered ON and its power light is solid. For the Linksys RE1000 v1, the power light is the product logo. For the Linksys RE1000 v1.5, the power light is located above the product logo.
 
2. Make sure it is within the range of your router.  
 
3. There might be signal obstructions between your router and your range extender. Try transferring your range extender to another location. Avoid placing your range extender near metal objects, masonry walls, and reflective surfaces such as mirrors.
 
4. Your WiFi name may be hidden or disabled. As a result, the Setup Wizard can't see that it's available. If your WiFi is hidden, click My network is hidden. You'll be asked to enter your WiFi name and password and then the Setup Wizard can connect to it and continue.
Why can’t my Linksys RE1000 detect my 5 GHz WiFi?The Linksys RE1000 is only compatible with 2.4 GHz WiFi band.
What should I do if I encounter errors when I set up the range extender?You can reset the range extender first before trying to run the Setup CD again. You can also download the latest setup software of the range extender from the Linksys Support Site to make sure that the range extender has the latest firmware version.
What settings do I need to prepare before setting up the Linksys RE1000?Make sure that you have the following:
 
1. Active 2.4 GHz WiFi connection
The range extender will only detect and work with the 2.4 GHz band.
 
2. WiFi name
If you have a dual-band router, make sure that the WiFi of your 2.4 GHz band is different from that of the 5 GHz.
 
3. Password or security key
For better connection and performance, it is recommended to use the following security types: WPA2/WPA Mixed Mode, WPA2 Personal and WPA Personal.

Does the Linksys RE1000 come with software for initial installation?Yes, it comes with installation software in its Setup CD that you can use to set up the range extender
Does the Linksys RE1000 support Quality of Service (QoS)?Yes.
Can I turn OFF the ethernet port light on my Linksys RE1000?Yes, you can turn the ethernet port light OFF on the Linksys RE1000 by going to Status > Ethernet Statistics and selecting the Off radio button under Ethernet Port Lights on the web-based setup page.
Can I connect multiple wireless devices to my Linksys RE1000 like my router or access point?Yes, the Linksys RE1000 acts as an extension to your router or access point so you can connect multiple devices to it.
Can I check the connection of my network devices connected to the Linksys RE1000 including their connection to the internet?Yes. Diagnostic tests (Ping and Traceroute) to allow you to check the connections of your network devices, including connection to the internet. You can do this by going to Administration > Diagnostics on the web-based setup page.
Can I add more than one Linksys RE1000 to my existing WiFi?Yes. But since the Linksys RE1000 only gets half of the WiFi signal from your main router or access point, adding multiple range extenders can provide you with an even lower signal, thus, giving lesser bandwidth to your wireless computers or devices that you are going to connect to these additional extenders.
Do I have to disconnect and reconnect to different WiFi names when I go anywhere in my house if I am using multiple range extenders?No. Even though you are using multiple access points or extenders in your network, you can still stay connected to any one of them as you move around the house since they would be configured using the same wireless settings like the WiFi name and password.
Does the Linksys RE1000 have a DHCP server feature?The Linksys RE1000 does not have a DHCP server feature.
