TROUBLESHOOTING

1. What should I do when I cannot get the Linksys RE6400 connected to the router or access point?

Here are some things you can do to check the position of your router and extender:
  • Make sure you are using the same Wi-Fi name and password as your existing Wi-Fi router or access point.  The Wi-Fi password is case sensitive.
  • For first-time setup, you may need to place the extender closer to the router.  After you’ve set up your extender, you can unplug it and move it to the final location.
  • To reduce signal obstructions, try alternate locations for the router and extender.
  • Avoid placing the router and extender near metal objects, masonry walls, and reflective surfaces, such as glass or mirrors.
  • Avoid placing the router and extender near other electronics that may cause signal interference.
  • If you’re using WPS to connect, wait until the WPS indicator stops blinking before trying to make the connection again.
2. What should I do when I cannot access the web-based setup page of the Linksys RE6400?

If you cannot access the Linksys RE6400, try any of the following troubleshooting methods:
  • Use the friendly name of the Linksys RE6400:
    • For Windows:  http://RE6400-xxx
    • For Mac OS X® and iOS devices:  http://RE6400-xxx.local
NOTE:  xxx represents the last three characters of the MAC address.
  • Use http://extender.linksys.com – To use this, make sure your computer is connected directly to the range extender with an ethernet cable.  If your computer is Wi-Fi ready, make sure it’s connected to the SSID with the -ext extension.
  • Use the range extender’s IP address, which is http://x.x.x.x –   If the range extender is not yet configured, its default IP address is 192.168.1.1.  Once the Linksys RE6400 is connected to your existing network, it will detect a DHCP server in your network, like your Wi-Fi router.  Your Wi-Fi router will automatically assign a different IP address to the range extender and treat it as a DHCP client.  Therefore the default IP address will change.  You may need to check the DHCP client list of your router.  To do this, click here.
  • If all links above do not work, then try the following:
  • Powercycle the range extender.
  • Move the range extender closer to your router.
  • Look up your range extender’s IP address on your router’s DHCP table and try to ping it.
  • Connect your computer to the range extender’s LAN port and attempt to access it via the default IP address and check the Wi-Fi settings.
  • Reset the range extender to factory defaults and go through the setup again.
For more detailed information, click here.

3. What should I do when I experience intermittent connection issues when connected to the Linksys RE6400?

Ensure that your range extender is getting at least 50% of your router’s Wi-Fi signal and is located midway between your router and the area without Wi-Fi.  Log in to the Spot Finder page and determine your signal and move the range extender according to the Spot Finder results.
