Switching from Range Extender mode to Access Point mode

The Linksys RE9000 Range Extender is a Tri-Band ethernet bridge and a range extender that will give your Wi-Fi a boost and eliminate dead zones in hard-to-reach areas like your backyard, garage or bedroom. 
 
This article will show you how you can switch from Range Extender mode to Access Point mode through your Linksys RE9000’s web-based setup page.
 
Before you begin:

 
  • You must use a wireless computer in order to switch from Range Extender mode to Access Point mode
  • Have an ethernet cable ready
  • Make sure no other devices are hardwired to the Linksys RE9000 (After you switch to Access Point mode, you can hardwire clients to your Linksys RE9000.)

IMPORTANT:  Only one ethernet connection must be detected at the time of setup.  Once setup is complete, you can then hardwire additional devices.
 
Step 1:
Access the Linksys RE9000’s web-based setup page.  For instructions, click
here.
 
Step 2:
Under Wireless, click on the Wizard sub-tab.

Step 3:
Select the Access Point (Wired Range Extender) radio button then click Change.

Step 4:
Connect the ethernet cable from the Linksys RE9000 to the router. 
 
Step 5:
Click Change.

If you haven’t connected an ethernet cable between the Linksys RE9000 and your router, the Ethernet cable not detected. error will pop up.  Connect the cable and click Got it when you’re ready.

NOTES:
  • If you need to change both your extended network names, do so by unchecking Band Steering.  Otherwise, click on Change.
 
NOTE:  Leaving Band Steering ON is the recommended setting.

  • If you want to change the security settings, uncheck the bottom box and make the necessary changes in the appropriate fields.  Otherwise, leave it checked then click Change.

NOTE:  Passwords are case-sensitive.

Step 6:
Your extender will now reboot to finish applying the settings.

Step 7:
Reconnect to your extended network when prompted.

You should now have successfully switched to Access Point mode.  Now, you can proceed with hardwiring additional device to the ethernet port of your Linksys RE9000.
