How to set up a Linksys LN1100 after a reset

The Linksys LN1100 supports a plug-and-play setup right out of the box, which automatically configures your mesh network, including any associated Linksys LN1200 child nodes that it came with. It's a seamless process designed for one-time use. However, if you have to reset the router, you will need to manually set it up again.

For PPPoE connections, this method is not supported. The router will need
manual configuration to get online.

Linksys offers several methods for you to choose from, depending on what you are most comfortable with.

A. 5-Button push setup - This setup does not require a mobile device or computer for setup.
B.
Web browser setup - This method requires a computer.
C.
Linksys app setup  - This requires a mobile device.

5-Button push setup

The 5-Button push method offers the easiest and quickest way to set up both your Linksys LN1100 and LN1200 child nodes for an internet connection using DHCP (automatic) simultaneously.

Before you begin:

  • Parent router/node - The parent router refers to the Linksys LN1100 router that will be connected to your modem.
  • Child node - An additional node to expand your WiFi such as a Linksys LN1200 or another Linksys LN1100 node.
  • Learn more about the status light of the Linksys LN1100.

1. Gather all your equipment in the same area as your modem. After the nodes are set up, you can relocate your child nodes as needed.

2. Power ON all your nodes. The child nodes need to be near the parent router, ideally within 10 ft and in the same room. Wait until all your nodes display a solid blue light, indicating they are ready for setup.

If any of the nodes do not have a solid blue light, reset them by holding down the reset button for about 15 seconds, then wait until the light becomes solid blue.

3. Remove any existing router.

a. I have a modem with a separate router.

  • Disconnect your existing router.
  • Power cycle your modem.
  • Wait until your modem has rebooted and go to the next step.

b.  I have a WiFi router and modem combined in one device or I do not have any existing routers in my home.

  • Go to the next step.

4. Connect the Linksys LN1100 router with an ethernet cable to your modem.

5. Once all your nodes have a solid blue light and the router is plugged into your modem, press the reset button on the back of the Linksys LN1100 router five times within 5 seconds (do not hold).

The light on the router will begin blinking. Wait until your router has a solid white light. This indicates that the router is online. Child node pairing will then begin.

6. If you powered ON any Linksys LN1200 child nodes from the previous steps, the router will begin to scan for unconfigured nodes. If you do not have any child nodes to add, go to the next step.

Once the child nodes have been detected, the light on the child nodes will also begin to blink. Wait for the child node's light to turn solid white. This can take a few minutes.

7. Once all your nodes have a solid white light, your WiFi is ready to use. Connect your devices to the default WiFi.

The default WiFi credentials are located at the bottom of the Linksys LN1100 that is connected to your modem. For mobile devices, you can scan the QR code located at the bottom.
