Assigning a Static IP Address on an Access Point

Assigning a static IP address on an access point allows you to use the same IP address all the time regardless of where it is connected, making it easier to access its web-based setup page for any configuration changes.

This article will guide you on how to assign a static IP address on a Linksys Access Point.

NOTE:  In this example, we use WAP300N as our access point.

Before you proceed, make sure that you know the IP address of your main router.  Alternatively, you can also check the IP settings of your computer to obtain the router’s IP address.  It is listed as the Default Gateway.  If you need help in checking, click here.

IMPORTANT:  Make sure to use a computer that is connected to the network via wired or wireless connection in configuring the access point's IP address.

Step 1:
Log in to the access point's web-based setup page.  Launch a web browser and enter the access point's IP address in the Address bar then press Enter.

Step 2:
Once the setup page appears, click the Network Setup drop-down and select Static IP.

Step 3:
Enter the Static IP Address that you want to use on the WAP300N, the Subnet Mask and the Default Gateway (the router’s IP address) in their respective fields.

IMPORTANT:  The Static IP Address should be within the same range as the Default Gateway.

Step 4:
Click Save Settings.

Wait for a few moments before reloading the page to ensure that the change is applied then use the new IP address to access the web-based setup page again.
