HARDWARE INFORMATION
What is the Linksys E8400?The Linksys E8400 is an 802.11ac wireless router. This is a 4x4, dual-band router with one USB 3.0 and one USB 2.0 / eSATA combo port. It comes with an embedded Setup Wizard for easy installation.   
Is the Linksys E8400 a Smart WiFi router?No.
How do I reset the router to factory defaults?There are two ways to reset the router to its factory defaults. 
 
Hardware Reset: Press and hold the Reset button located at the bottom panel for about 5 seconds then release.

Software Reset: Log in to the web browser, go to Administration > Factory Defaults then, click on Restore Factory Defaults.
Where are the indicator lights, the Reset and Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ (WPS) buttons located?The indicator lights, Reset, WiFi, and WPS buttons are located at the back of the router.
How many USB ports does the router have?The Linksys E8400 has two USB ports. The first one is a USB 3.0 port and the other one is a USB 2.0 / eSATA combo port.
What do the USB ports support?The router's USB ports support the following:
 
  • Virtual USB
  • Storage support – FAT, FAT32, NTFS, HFS + journaled and FTP support
  • Both ports have up to 1100 mA current draw
  • The partition limit is 10
How many antennas does the Linksys E8400 have?It has four external detachable antennas with an R-SMA connector.

INITIAL SETUP
How do I install the Linksys E8400?The router can be installed through the following methods:
 
1. You can install the router using its embedded Setup Wizard with a supported browser. 
2. You can also set up the router manually by clicking Cancel on the Setup Wizard. 
What are the default IP address, username, and password of the router's web browser?The default IP address is 192.168.1.1 and the user name and password are both "admin".
What web browsers and operating systems is the router compatible with?

The Linksys E8400 router comes with an embedded Setup Wizard that allows you to set up your router easily. It is compatible with the following:

What is the default WiFi password?The router has a default random WiFi password, printed on the Quick Start Guide.

WIFI SECURITY
What is the default WiFi name of the Linksys E8400?The default WiFi name of the router is Linksysxxxxx, where xxxxx is the last five digits of the serial number. For the 5 GHz band, the default WiFi name is LinksysXXXXX_5GHz.
What WiFi security modes does the Linksys E8400 support?It supports the following WiFi security settings:
 
2.4 GHz: WPA2â„¢ / WPAâ„¢ mixed mode, WPA2 Personal and WEP
5 GHz: WPA2 / WPA mixed mode, WPA2 personal

FIRMWARE UPDATE
How do I update the firmware of the Linksys E8400?You can manually update the router to fix issues that you may encounter while using it. 
Will the Linksys E8400 lose the settings that I have customized if I update its firmware?No.

SPECIAL FEATURES
What is Port Forwarding?Port Forwarding allows you to set up public services on your network, such as web servers, FTP servers, e-mail servers, or other specialized internet applications.
What is Port Triggering?Port Triggering allows the router to let specific requests from all computers in your network pass through the internet, and vice versa without any issues. 
What is MAC Address Clone and what is it for?A Media Access Control (MAC) address is a unique identifier pre-assigned to the network adapter of the computer. This is used by most cable internet service providers (ISPs) for authentication so subscribers can establish an internet connection.
 
To set up your Linksys modem/router to work with your ISP, you have to enable the MAC Address Clone feature on the router. This will allow your ISP to recognize the router as the computer with the registered MAC address.
What DDNS providers does the router support?The router supports DynDNS.org.
What is a Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) and what is it for?DMZ allows a local user to be exposed to the internet for use of a special-purpose service, such as internet gaming and videoconferencing. DMZ hosting forwards all the ports at the same time to one computer.
Can the IP address number assigned by DHCP server be more than 253?No. The default number is 50.
Does the router support wireless Quality of Service (QoS) and Internet Access Priority QoS?Yes.
How many internet connection types does the router support?The router supports seven internet connection types:

Does the router support Guest Access and Parental Controls?Yes.
How many devices can connect to my Guest WiFi?The guest WiFi can support up to 10 devices.
What is the default guest password of my Guest network?The default guest password is "guest".
Can I turn OFF the rear port lights through the web-based setup page?Yes.
Does the router allow VPN tunnels using IPSec, L2TP, or PPTP protocols as pass-through?Yes.
Does the router support a Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) firewall?Yes.
Does the router support remote management?Yes.

TROUBLESHOOTING
What should I do if I experience a dropping/intermittent internet connection after setting up the router?There are various reasons why you are experiencing poor signal or connection.  
The quickest and easiest workaround for most issues concerning your router is to power cycle the device.
How many computers can I connect to the router?The router is capable of four wired connections using an ethernet cord and 32 wireless computers or devices.
How can I check the devices that are connected to my router?You can check the devices connected to your router through the DHCP Client Table on your router’s web-based setup page.
How do I verify my computer’s connection to the WiFi?There are two ways to verify your computer’s connection to the WiFi. You can either check your computer’s internet connectivity by accessing any website or by performing a ping test to check its connection to the router. 
What should I do if I can’t connect to the internet?There are many possible reasons why you can’t connect to the internet, and there are also many possible ways to resolve connection issues that you may encounter with the router. As a workaround, you can power cycle the router for 10 seconds then try connecting again to the internet
